A Traditional Women’s Prayer Before Candle Lighting

May it be Your will, my God and God of my ancestors, to grant my family, my community, and the entire Jewish people, a good and long life.  Bless us with kindness and compassion and grant us safety in the places we call home. May Your Presence dwell among us as we gather here tonight. May we be blessed with wise and learned adults and children, who love all that is holy in the world, who speak the truth and do good deeds. May those we nurture light the world with Jewish wisdom and mitzvot.

Please hear these words I utter now in the name of our mothers Sarah, Rebekah, Rachel, Leah, Bilhah and Zilpah. May Your light, reflected in these candles, surround us always. Må det blive Din vilje, min Gud og Gud af vores forfædre og formødre at give min familie, mit samfund, og hele det jødiske folk, et godt og langt liv. Velsign os med venlighed og medfølelse og giv os tryghed i vores hjem. Må Din tilstedeværelse dvæle blandt os når vi samles her i aften. Må vi blive velsignet med visdom og kloge voksne og børn, som elsker alt der er helligt i verden, som taler sandhed og gør gode gerninger. Må dem som vi tager os af illuminere verden med jødisk visdom og gode gerninger.

Vær god at hør disse ord som jeg siger på vegne af vores formødre Sarah, Rebekah, Rakel, Leah, Bilhah og Zilpah. Må Dit lys, som er reflekteret i disse stearinlys, omgive os alle. Og lad os sige Amen.

Introduction: We welcome all guests, focusing on the theme of the evening, ‘freedom,’ + review the order.

Introduktion: Vi välkomnar alla gäster och fokusera på temat för kvällen, "frihet,”+ gå igenom den ordning

• Kadesh:  After the blessing, drink the first cup of wine while reclining in a comfortable position.

• Efter välsignelser över vin, drick den första koppen vin medan liggande i en bekväm ställning.
• Urchatz: Ritual hand washing without a blessing. Sometimes one person does this for everyone.
• Rituell handtvätt utan välsignelse. Ibland en person gör detta symbolisk för alla.

• Karpas: Green herb or vegetable dipped in salt water. The greens symbolize spring, the salt water the tears of slavery.
• Gröna örter eller grönsaker doppas i saltvatten. Greenerna symboliserar våren och saltvatten tårar av slaveri.

• Yachatz: There are three ritual matzot on the table. We break the middle matzah and one half becomes the afikomen (which is hidden to be found later in the seder).
• Det finns tre rituella matzot på bordet. Vi bryter den mellersta matzah. En halv blir afikomen (som är döljs, att finna senare i seder).

• Maggid:  The central part of the seder. We tell the story of our ancestors’ liberation from slavery in Egypt. The tale includes:  
• Four Questions; traditionally recited by the youngest participant
• Four Children, a metaphor for various ways of asking
• Telling of the Exodus story
• Drink the second cup of wine and sing Dayeinu
• Den centrala ävsnitt av seder. Vi berättar historien om våra förfäders befrielse från slaveriet i Egypten. Finns även:
  o de fyra frågorna, traditionellt reciteras av den yngsta deltagare
  o fyra barn; en metafor förolika sättatt ställa frågor

o Drick den andra kopp vin och sjunga Dayeinu

• Rachtzah: Ritual hand washing before the meal with the traditional blessing.
• Rituell handtvätt före måltid med den traditionella välsignelsen.

• Motzi-Matzah: After the blessings, we share and eat the ritual matzah.
• Efter välsignelser, delar vi och äter den rituella matzah.

• Maror:  After the blessing, we taste the horseradish or other bitter herb.
• Efter välsignelsen, smaka vi pepparrot eller annan bitter ört.

• Korech: We learn about the “Hillel Sandwich” + eat a little sandwich of matzah, maror, and charoset.    
• Vi lär oss om den "Hillel Sandwich" + äta lite smörgås av matzah, maror och charoset.   

• Shulchan Orech: We enjoy a festive feast!
• Vinjuta av enfestligmåltid!
• Tzafun: Somebody must find the afikomen. We share it as the final “dessert” of the night.

• Barech: We sing Birkat Hamazon, grace after meals, which ends with the third cup of wine.

• Hallel: We sing psalms, drink the fourth cup of wine, and welcome the prophet Elijah who is traditionally the harbinger of world peace.

• Nirtzah: We conclude the Seder with songs and hopes for next year in a Jerusalem at peace.
